I met Eliza & Frankie, 6 and 10, with their mum at the end of the summer school holidays for a beach shoot on Brighton seafront. It was a fresh, bright day and, as you can see, quite an energetic shoot! The girls were immediately at ease with having their photo taken and very happy to take instruction of where and how to pose, but also had their own fun with it! Whilst they played on the beach I took some natural shots – these ‘fly on the wall’ photos really are my favourites to take as they capture ‘real life’ genuine interactions and are generally the most playful.

The beach is such an excellent location for photoshoots as it provides so many options for action shots, from stone skimming on the sea, to climbing and building pebble towers, or just paddling in the surf – all great options for younger subjects who may have trouble sitting still! The natural elements of the wind and water also add an extra special quality and Brighton’s charming colourful beach huts, driftwood and pebbles can also be fabulous unwitting participants, like they are in this shoot. I really love the calming muted tones of the beach and seascape under the light blue sky and the beach hut backdrop also adds a really fun dimension which reflects the relationship between the two sisters.

After spending the afternoon with Eliza and Frankie it was evident what a loving sisterly bond they have and I think the photos really capture this. It was such a pleasure to spend time with them all.
